A First-of-Its-Kind Meditation × Japanese Craft Gin Experience
Step away from the everyday. Enter a world of stillness.
Experience a one-of-a-kind meditation retreat at Ryosokuin, a sub-temple within Kyoto's historic Kennin-ji, brought to you by ROKU — Suntory's Japanese craft gin.
ROKU is crafted from six native Japanese botanicals, each harvested at the precise peak of its season, then carefully distilled and blended to capture the essence of Japan's four seasons in every sip.
That same philosophy — living in harmony with nature's rhythms — runs through the heart of Zen practice. Guided by an experienced instructor, you'll quiet your senses and arrive fully in the present moment.
Walking meditation. Mindful breathing. Time spent in quiet communion with a centuries-old garden. And to close, a carefully poured glass of ROKU, served in an exclusive tea room — a taste of Japan's seasons made tangible.
This isn't a tasting event. It isn't a sightseeing tour. It's a retreat for your five senses — a chance to reconnect with nature and with yourself.
A moment of stillness and season, available only through this exclusive experience.

SUNTORY ROKU
SUNTORY ROKU is a Japanese craft gin inspired by SHUN —
the fleeting moment when nature is at its most vibrant.
Crafted with six Japanese botanicals, each harvested at its seasonal peak,
ROKU captures the harmony of Japan’s four seasons.
This meditation retreat extends that philosophy beyond flavor,
ensuring that SHUN is not merely tasted,
but personally felt and carried forward.

Where SHUN Is Felt Through Meditation
This is a meditation experience —
guided not by doctrine, but by sensation.
By slowing the body and quieting the mind,
the subtle expressions of the season begin to appear.
Light, air, sound, scent, and taste
become pathways to experiencing SHUN —
the fleeting moment when nature is at its peak.
What is offered here is not information,
but awareness.
What Is SHUN?
In Japan, there is a word for the fleeting moment when nature is at its absolute best.
That word is SHUN.
It refers to the precise point in time when something is most vibrant, most alive — before it begins to fade.
SHUN cannot be preserved or repeated. It can only be noticed, in the moment it exists.
The Philosophy of ROKU — SHUN and Seasonal Harmony
At the heart of ROKU lies the philosophy of SHUN —
the brief moment when nature is at its most vibrant.
Each of ROKU’s six Japanese botanicals is harvested precisely at its seasonal peak, capturing spring, summer, autumn, and winter in balance.
This meditation experience embodies that same philosophy.
By aligning the body and senses with the present season, SHUN is no longer an abstract idea,
but something personally felt — here and now.
A Guided Meditation Through the Senses
The experience unfolds as a guided meditation within the grounds of a Zen temple.
Walking meditation in the garden, stillness in the temple space, and moments of quiet awareness gently lead the senses inward.
Rather than focusing the mind, the meditation allows the senses to open — so that season, space, and self can be experienced as one.
Ryosokuin Temple — A Place of Rare Stillness
The retreat takes place at Ryosokuin,
a sub-temple of Kennin-ji — Kyoto’s oldest Zen temple.
Ryosokuin is not generally open to the public.
It is a place traditionally reserved for contemplation,
where architecture, garden, and ritual remain untouched by time.
To experience stillness in such a setting
is not a privilege that can be replicated elsewhere.
